The overview

What it is, and why it matters.

A large roof sheds hundreds of gallons in a single storm, and if it lands next to the foundation, it ends up in the crawl space or under the patio. We connect downspouts to solid buried pipe, run it to a safe outlet and add catch basins, pop-up emitters or dry wells where they help. The system is sized for the roof area and hidden under the lawn.

In Nashville neighborhoods with tight lots, we coordinate with neighbors' grades, city drains and any easements, and we explain the limits of what can be discharged where. A clean, simple system protects the house and keeps hardscape from settling.

Good questions

Downspout & Yard Drainage: common questions

Where should downspouts drain?

At least five to ten feet from the foundation, to a safe outlet such as a daylight pipe, pop-up emitter or dry well, following local rules.

Can downspouts connect to a French drain?

Roof water and groundwater are usually best on separate lines. Combining them can overload or clog a drain, so we design them carefully.
