Block walls that hold the hill for good.
Interlocking concrete block retaining walls with a compacted stone base, drainage behind the wall and geogrid reinforcement where height and soil call for it.
- Base: Buried and compacted stone
- Drainage: Clean stone and perforated pipe
- Reinforcement: Geogrid for taller walls

What it is, and why it matters.
Retaining walls fail from behind, not in front. Water builds up behind a wall, soil pushes, and the wall leans. A segmental wall done right has a buried, compacted base, a drainage zone of clean stone with a perforated pipe, layers of geogrid tied into the soil and a cap that sheds water. We build every wall to that standard, and we tell you plainly when a wall is tall enough to need an engineer.
Middle Tennessee's clay soils swell with water and push hard on walls, so drainage is not optional here. We design the wall for the height, the slope above it and the load, choose block colors that suit your home and plan steps, corners, curves and cap details so the finished wall looks as good as it works.
Four things done right.
Drainage behind the wall
The part most walls skip and then fail from.
Buried, compacted base
A flat foundation that keeps courses level.
Geogrid when needed
Tied into the soil to resist pressure.
Engineer when required
Taller or surcharged walls get proper design.
From first visit to segmental retaining walls.
- 01
Survey and design
Measure the grade, check soil and plan height and layout.
- 02
Excavate and base
Dig the trench and compact a level base.
- 03
Stack and reinforce
Set courses, backfill with stone and place geogrid.
- 04
Cap and finish
Glue caps, add drainage outlets, restore the grade.

Segmental Retaining Walls: common questions
How tall can a retaining wall be without an engineer?
Many areas expect engineering for walls above about four feet or walls that carry driveways, structures or steep slopes above them. We tell you early, coordinate the engineer and build to the drawings.
How long will a block wall last?
Built with proper drainage, base and reinforcement, segmental walls last for decades. Most failures trace back to missing drainage or a poor base.
