What it is, and why it matters.
Travertine and porcelain give you a crisp, contemporary surface: big slabs, tight joints and colors that stay cooler than dark concrete in the Tennessee summer. Because the pieces are large and less forgiving, the base must be flat and stable. We build them on compacted stone with a precise bed, on concrete with a bonded setting method or on adjustable pedestals, depending on the site.
Porcelain is dense, stain-resistant and nearly maintenance-free, while travertine offers natural variation and warm tones that suit pool decks and entries. We explain the real differences in slip rating, heat, sealing and cost, and put sample pieces in the sun at your house so you can feel them.

Travertine & Porcelain Patios: common questions
Which is better, travertine or porcelain?
Travertine has natural variation and a warm look and needs occasional sealing. Porcelain is harder, more stain-resistant and consistent. Both stay cooler than dark pavers. The right choice depends on style, budget and upkeep, and samples settle it fast.
Can these be used around a pool?
Yes. We choose slip-resistant finishes, set them with proper drainage and use light colors that stay comfortable underfoot. See our pool deck page for more.
